Inside the box, you get:

  • 1 x ADO Mate 3 Speaker
  • 1 x USB Charging Cable
  • 1 x English User Manual

There’s unfortunately no power supply inside the box, but any USB port will charge the unit. Given the price of the unit, I can understand the omission.

ADO Mate 3 Design

The ADO Mate 3 is impressively compact – much smaller than I expected at just 48 x 50mm. It’s definitely easy to chuck it into a bag to take it around with you.

It also looks great, with it’s cubic frame softened by rounded edges. It’s stylish and really nails the clean, modern aesthetic that products lust for these days.

The whole unit feels solid and well-made. The unit’s shell is made of aluminium and coated in a soft-touch rubbery coating which feels really nice. A large rubber pad underneath the speaker stops it from moving when cranking up the volume.

Its appearance is dominated by the large speaker grill at the top, hiding the 4W driver inside.

The front of the unit features a power button with a dual color LED – blue when powered on and red when charging.

The rear of the unit houses the micro USB charging port and some venting.

Using It

Powering up the speaker is done by holding down the power button for a couple of seconds until you hear the boot up tone.

Jump into the Bluetooth menu on your smart device and pair with “ADO Mate 3”. A quick tone will let you know when you’re successfully connected.

NFC pairing was great. With my handy Samsung Galaxy S4, I just held the phone to the speaker for a few seconds. After accepting the pairing prompt, I was ready to play music.

You can only pair to one device at a time but this is standard for most Bluetooth speakers.

Keeping with the minimalist design, there’s no controls on the ADO Mate 3. Playback and volume control is handled via your phone, although I found out that pressing the power button would play or pause the music.

ADO-Mate3-02

The speaker is mono only, like most small Bluetooth speakers. After being spoiled with the excellent Xiaomi speaker, this is a shame. However, it’s also a third of the size so I can’t be too critical here.

Battery life was good, playing tunes for several hours without issues. According to ADO, the integrated 1800mAh battery should be good for 15-20 hours of music playback.

Range was pretty impressive during my testing. I was able to go about 7 meters away through several walls and the music kept playing without any drops.

ADO Mate 3 Sound Quality

Sound quality was good on the ADO Mate 3. Music is nice and clear but it is a little light on the bass. Unfortunately, this tends to be a problem that most portable Bluetooth speakers, with the small drivers leading to treble-centric sound.

ADO-Mate3-03

Less intense music genres rap sound best on the ADO Mate 3. Switching to something more extreme like good ‘ol death metal still sounds good but the audio does start to muddy a little at maximum volume. Turning it down alleviates this but this is a downer for those who like it loud.

Speaking of loudness, the unit’s impressively loud for such a tiny unit. It was enough to fill a small to mid-sized room or as ambient music in a larger space. Even when cranked up to max, I didn’t notice any significant distortion which is great.

Should I Get One?

The ADO Mate 3 is a good Bluetooth speaker. Whilst bass response could have been better, if you’re looking for something uber-portable, the ADO Mate 3 is a well-built unit that sounds great – particularly for its price.
