Ulefone Be Pro 2 Impressions

The Ulefone Be Pro 2 is one of Ulefone’s latest smartphones. Powered by the Mediatek MTK6735 SoC, it packs in a 5.5 inch 720p display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, 4G connectivity, 2GB RAM and 16Gb of onboard storage. It also runs Android 5.1, all for under $120.

I want to say thanks to GearBest for providing a sample to review. Use coupon “Pro2GB” to get it for just $115.99 until the 4th of December.

Ulefone Be Pro 2 First Impressions

Unboxing the Ulefone Be Pro 2, it’s definitely a nice looking phone. The 5.5 inch screen dominates the front of the device. The screen seems to be pretty bright and sharp, despite being 720p. Capacitive menu, home and back buttons are located at the bottom and a front facing camera is at the top of the unit.

The left of the device is relatively minimalist, featuring only the volume buttons.

The right side is equally sparse, with only a power/lock button.

Interestingly, the Ulefone Be Pro 2 is charged via a micro USB at the top of the device. There’s also a 3.5mm audio port for headphones.

The back of the phone has a gentle curve which makes it comfortable to hold. It’s here that we have the 13MP camera, LED flash, Ulefone branding and the speaker.

Overall build quality seems good, with the unit feeling solid and not flimsy at all.

After booting the phone up by holding the power button for a few seconds (make sure you remove the plastic protecting the removable battery, unlike me!), you’re booted into Android Lollypop. Ulefone have kept the look of the OS essentially stock. However, there’s some handy customisation under the hood that allows you to use gestures to wake the device or launch apps, even when the screen is off which is pretty cool.

The Mediatek MTK6735 seems to handle Android 5.1 well and I didn’t notice any lag during my testing, with everything animating smoothly. The Google Play store is pre-installed and I didn’t experience any issues installing apps.

Verdict So Far

I’ve only had a brief play but from what I’ve seen, I’m pretty impressed for what you get for under $120. Build quality seems solid, the screen’s nice and sharp and Ulefone appear to have added some handy features to the ROM.

  1. Hi Michael, we have bought one of these based upon your review. I tend to buy Chinese phones and am pleased to get a couple of years out each one. We have selected expedited delivery so may have it around 27th of Nov (or possibly a few days later ….l have had stuff delivered from Chinese sellers before).

This way we get a new phone every couple of years! I have always found them to be OK to use and at under $200 it is fine.

Will let you know how we get on.

    • Hi Thomfam,
Thanks for sharing. I’m a big fan of Chinese smartphones, particularly if you’re on a budget. I’m currently travelling with an Elephone M1 which is serving me well.

Look forward to hearing about your experience with your new phone!

      • The phone is actually what my wife will use so what I say here is basically from my observations.

Delivery from Gearbest is best described as OK. Tracking info is ‘basic’ at best. Like “In Transit” and next entry “In Brisbane”. There were only four tracking comments in all. Expedited shipping means a day or so quicker than free shipping I guess.

As a basic phone to receive/make calls, do emails, catch up with Facebook and play a few games the phone is fine. 5.5″ isn’t too big but felt large in your hands for the first day or so.

Came with a cover and spare plastic protection sheet.

It uses a standard sized sim card so we had to get an adapter to fit the current mini sim.

Takes OK photos but with a slight blue tinge in shady areas.

Overall after a couple of days usage it is fine.

The previous phone was a Thl Ts 6. The Ulefone compares favorably with the Thl.

        • I bought an Ulefone Be Pro 2 and everything is great by now. Except some flip cover issues. I couldn’t choose the analog clock for s flip cover view. It’s always digital clock and I also can’t change the background color. It keeps resetting every time I open and close the cover.
