The UNIC UC50 is a Tiny Projector With 1500mAh Battery

The UNIC UC50 is UNIC’s latest projector and it’s tiny. At just 8 x 7 x 2.5 cm and weighing only 180g, the UNIC UC50 claims 800-lumens of brightness, 800:1 contrast ratio, 854×480 native resolution and, interestingly, a 1500mAh battery.

According to the marketing material, the unit should be able to project a 150-inch image although I can guarantee you’ll need a dark environment to see it clearly.

At first the 845×480 resolution sounds unbearably low. However, during my UNIC UC40 projector review (which essentially has the same native resolution), I found out that it’s actually not too bad depending on your requirements. Whilst it’s not going to satisfy the videophile amongst you, for the kids or as cheap outdoor cinema, it’s sufficient.

The UNIC UC50 has a surprisingly comprehensive set of features. In addition to HDMI and composite video inputs, the UC50 can also play back media stored on USB and SD cards.

I’m guessing we’ll see an updated version of the software seen in their UNIC UC40 projector. This means most common codecs up to 1080p should be supported via the integrated media player.

There’s an integrated 1W speaker but 3.5mm audio output allows you to use your own (more powerful) speakers.

The UNIC UC50’s included 1500mAh lithium polymer battery should be good for around 1.5 hours of playback. Charging is handled via either a 5V 2A power supply or alternatively, a micro USB charging port.

It also looks like they’ve integrated the lens cover with the power switch. Sliding open the door at the front not only reveals the lens, but also automatically powers up the unit which is pretty cool.

Inside the box, you’ll get the UNIC UC50 unit itself, an AV cable, USB charging cable, IR remote, holder, a “sucker” (whatever that is), and an instruction manual.

Getting One

The UNIC UC50 can be preordered from GearBest and GeekBuying for around $120 in 3 different colors: white, green or pink.

The presale is expected to end on the 5th of October so expect orders to ship shortly after.
