PiPO W2F Windows Tablet Impressions

The PiPO W2F is a quadcore Windows tablet packing an 8 inch display, 32gb of storage and 2GB RAM. Powered by Intel’s Baytrail platform, this economical tablet is perfect for web browsing, word processing and the odd bit of gaming. Running Windows 8.1 with Bing means that you can run all your favorite desktop applications and take them with you – a luxury more expensive tablets such as the iPad can’t offer. I’ve been playing with the PiPO W2F for a week or so now so I thought I’d share my experiences with this quadcore Windows tablet so far.

Thanks to GearBest for providing me a sample to review. You can purchase one from them here. Use coupon “PIPOW2LM” to get it for $115.98.

The PiPO W2F comes with the basics to get started:

  • 1x PiPO W2F tablet
  • 1x Power adapter 5V 2a
  • 1x English Instruction Manual
  • 1x Warranty Card
  • 1x USB OTG cable
  • 1x USB Power Cable

It would have been nice to have included a HDMI cable but this isn’t a common inclusion in most tablets so I can’t be too harsh.

Unboxing and Demo

Using It

After charging the tablet overnight via a (very welcome) micro USB port, the tablet was ready to go.

Upon booting the tablet, I was greeted with Windows 8.1’s familiar setup process. After a few minutes of setup, the tablet was ready to go. Subsequent cold boots were a fantastic 12 seconds and waking from standby was near instantaneous.

I can confirm that Windows 8.1 with Bing is activated. It’s sad that this needs to be stated for some products but PiPO have always been reliable here.

I found that the PiPO W2F was really snappy during use. Navigating both the Metro and Windows desktop felt great. Animations were smooth, without a hint of lag. The touch screen is offers 5 points of touch and was responsive during gaming and general use.

The PiPO W2F packs a 1280×800 IPS screen and I have to say it’s pretty impressive. At full brightness, the device is bright and easy to use in the sunlight. Viewing angles are good too, thanks to its IPS technology.

I did have some issues with speakers crackling but a driver update has seemed to fix it. I do notice that there is an faint yet audible hiss when no audio is playing though. The speakers aren’t super loud and lack bass, but they are perfectly serviceable. Those wanting a better audio experience should opt for headphones.

Bluetooth worked well, and I was able to connect my iPega PG-9025 via Bluetooth and play some games without issue.

Gaming

To test out gaming performance, I fired up Gameloft’s graphical powerhouse, Asphalt 8. I can gladly say that the PiPO W2F handled the game brilliantly, with only the occasional bit of slowdown during high action sections. Have a look at the above video to see it in action.

Battery Life

Battery life has been quite good. I’ve been getting roughly 4-5 hours of use as specified.
