Rikomagic MK68 Initial Impressions
Rikomagic have essentially reused the case from the Rikomagic MK12. The whole case is glossy and slightly transparent. There’s a subtle pattern on the top which looks nice.
All the ports are located on the side and back of the device. On the side, we’ve got 2 USB 2.0 ports and a micro SD card slot.
The rear houses DC in, optical audio, Ethernet, HDMI and another USB 2.0 port.
Plugging in the unit boots it up. A cold boot takes around 54 seconds whilst resuming from standby is instant. I would have loved to see a power button like devices such as the Tronsmart Orion R68, but it’s not a big issue.
The Rikomagic MK68 runs Android 5.1 Lollypop and I’m happy to say that Rikomagic have included a TV-friendly launcher! They’re the first manufacturer to feature a UI designed for TVs on their RK3368 boxes.
It’s pretty intuitive and has plenty of sections where you can add your own custom shortcuts in for your most used apps.
Android feels great to navigate so there’s no performance issues here. It’s also rooted out of the box.
The pre-installed version of Kodi 14.2 is configured with a whole bunch of add-ons, including some adult content which shouldn’t really be on there. I replaced the pre-installed version with Kodi 15.1 for my video tests, as Kodi 15.2 wouldn’t correctly recognise the set refresh rate.
A quick video playback test in Kodi saw my 1080p H.264 and HEVC samples playback fine. My 4K 30FPS sample did stutter like I’ve seen on other RK3368 boxes.
Wifi performance seemed decent. My 1080p samples streamed fine from an NFS share via WiFi. I had some stuttering on my 4K sample but I suspect this is due to the previously mentioned decoding issues rather than WiFi. HD YouTube was also fine.
Gaming performance was pretty good. Both Jetpack Joyride and Beach Buggy Racing on maximum at 1080p were great, not dropping any frames. I did experience a couple of odd brief pauses with Asphalt 8 so I’m not sure if it was a bug but Rikomagic are looking into it.
A quick benchmark using Antutu achieved a score of 34021. 3DMark’s Ice Storm Extreme scored 5103, comprable to other RK3368-powered Android devices.
Verdict So Far
At this stage, the Rikomagic MK68 is competing well with other RK3368 boxes such as the Beelink i68 and Tronsmart Orion R68. I’m really happy to see Rikomagic have added a TV friendly launcher but the stutter during Asphalt 8 is a concern.

Purchased an MK68 on Ebay as they haven’t been released in
Australia yet, very easy to setup and so many good things – but……….when i went to use Netflix it just hung on Loading all the time, i contacted Rikomagic support and they said it is a known issue and sent me an updated firmware image file to install, apart form the struggle i had with chinese to english instructions i installed the image update no worries.
The update resolved the Netflix issue to some degree and i can watch content now although each time you start a show it hangs the video and the audio continues until you click ahead and force the video to jump forward, this seems to kick it in to gear, not ideal but it works.
The other bad things are
1. SD cards are not recognised when inserted, i still havent been able to get one to go.
2. The updated firmware broke the Wifi on the MK68 — still doesnt work but i work around using ethernet cable.
3. Some clear spelling mistakes like Ehernet instead of Ethernet
4. Although Rikomagic support was excellent and prompt to start with, i have since not had a reply to my issues, now 5 days
So beware if you plan to acquire on of these for use in Australia just yet, (thats probably why they haven’t been released) i did jump the gun because the specs of them were fantastic.
